This is where the terms "Classic App, Fat App, Native App" come into play. and the PPC chips have to *emulate* those instructions in order for today's machines to work with it. The LC / Performa were running on 680x0 hardware. Rememeber that since 1 - 2 - 3 was written, that advances in processor, memory size, and chipsets have occurred. Perhaps consider getting a Mac LC / Performa and keeping an OS of the day (7.5, 8.1) and just running Lotus on it. You might have to track down an older system, and run it there. I wonder if the Lotus website has any updated information the the program. Yes, it is possible there is an extension conflict running around somewhere. So Windows is going to be the best option for those older 32 bit apps.Without having a copy around, it would be difficult for me to bugshoot it. Since a lot of the older apps are no longer updated, that will be an issue. I also have an older Lenovo Yoga 2 11 laptop running Windows 10 I use on occasion, but updates are still an issue.Įventually Apple will stop allowing 32 bit apps on Mac OS X. If you can run your apps without having an internet connection, then that works better as the updates cannot be loaded, but it is a PITA to deal with them. The only drawback is those darn forced Windows updates that pop up continuously no matter how you try to prevent them. Since I run a lot of photography post processing apps found only on Windows, and I have a lot of ham radios and scanners that require Windows apps to program, it is easier just to use Bootcamp and boot up into Windows 10 and not have to worry about it. Every time Apple updates their Mojave software there is a possibility that the Wine build of the app will stop working or will develop issues. I have tried using Wine with WineBottler to make apps that will run directly on my MBP 2015, but it is always a PITA. Nevertheless, I use it to run the many, many, many, apps I need that have no Mac OS X versions. It actually runs Windows 10 better than it does High Sierra, but of course Windows 10 sucks IMO. I repurposed my older Mac Mini late 2012 model to run Windows 10 in Bootcamp.
